Ottawa – Peter Goldring, Member of Parliament for Edmonton East, is calling on all MPs to join him in a solemn ceremony on Parliament Hill, Thursday May 31 at 11 a.m. to pledge “Never Again” to genocides such as Europe’s Holocaust and Ukraine’s Holodomor.
“It is important for Canada to show leadership in this area,” Mr. Goldring states. “Since the Holocaust there have been far too many acts of genocide committed by despotic leaders and rogue nations. As a nation we need to stand up against deniers everywhere, join with others and say ‘Never Again.”
Joining in the ceremony will be Christian and Jewish motorcyclists from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Israel who are traveling to Ottawa as part of the annual Ride to Remember to take the pledge and stand united against genocide and against those that deny these vile acts of inhumanity
Mr. Goldring has spent six months organizing the Parliament Hill ceremony, which will culminate with those present taking the “Never Again” pledge, led by a child Holocaust survivor. Also taking part will be Jewish and Christian clergy and Ride to Remember participants.
“It may be 67 years since the “Victory in Europe, but the horror of the Holocaust remains fresh,” Mr. Goldring says. “Like no other event before it, the Holocaust taught us that man’s inhumanity to man knows no bounds. It is important as the generation that live through the Holocaust grows older and dies that we keep the stories and memories alive, so that we don’t repeat the horrors of past history.”
